Off-Campus Homicide -- SUSPECTS ARRESTED

Toledo Police on Thursday,
Aug. 14, arrested
two men in connection with the Aug. 13 shooting death of a clerk at the BP
gas station at the corner of Dorr Street and Secor Road. One of the
men is the accused shooter and has been charged with aggravated
robbery and aggravated murder. The other man allegedly drove the
getaway car and has been charged with aggravated robbery. A third
suspect, a passenger in the getaway car, turned himself into police
today. All three suspects appear to have no
affiliation with the University of Toledo.

The Toledo Police Department
is investigating an apparent homicide which occurred during the
early morning hours today, Aug. 13, at the British Petroleum gas
station located on the corner of Dorr Street and Secor Road. This
appears to be an isolated incident and there is no suspect
information at this time. Please stay tuned to local media for
details. If you have any information about this crime, please

Potential Scholarship Telemarketing Fraud Scheme

The U.S. Department of Education is cautioning
students nation-wide about an ongoing fraud scheme in which college students are offered
scholarships or grants ... for a fee. The crooks usually ask for
personal information, including bank account or credit card numbers,
in order to charge the "lucky" student a $249 "processing" fee. For
more information, and for tips on how to avoid being a victim of
fraud and identity theft, be sure to visit the web page of the
Office of Inspector General at the U.S. Department of Education.
